The Naga Bridge was built in 1892. The bridge linked the French with the Chinese district. It was nicknamed the treasury bridge, because of the proximity to the so-called treasury, which is currently the Ministry of Economics’ local finance office. It spanned the Verneville canal.
Nagas are serpent deity in Hindu and Buddhist mythology. They are protectors of both the Earth’s and Water’s treasures. The bridge nowadays is an exact copy of the original one.
Although the canal has been filled in 1930, and the bridge is not a bridge anymore, the history can be clearly sensed.
